Theosophical Order of Service

‘Theosophy in action’

The Theosophical Order of Service is a world-wide organization committed to improving the material and spiritual condition of humanity. It also has a compassionate and constructive approach to the welfare of animals and the environment. The T.O.S. focuses on various forms of service to put into practice the ideals of theosophical philosophy. It is ‘theosophy in action’.

The T.O.S. is a separate organisation from The Theosophical Society but is closely linked with that society which is based at Adyar, India. The T.O.S. was founded in the 1908 by the then International President of the Theosophical Society, Annie Besant, and the International head of the T.O.S. is usually the International President of the Theosophical Society.

Brisbane T.O.S. activities include making donations to various causes, writing to international bodies and governments about human rights issues, and taking an active part in various local service activities. Donations are funded from the proceeds of investments, bequests, fund raising and contributions by members.

Members of the Brisbane T.O.S. group are working in a range of projects associated with community service, the environment, animal welfare and world peace. In some projects, members contribute individually in ways and at times that suit their particular circumstances. Other projects involve members in group activities and provide opportunities for members to not only work together but also to enjoy each other's company and friendship.

Meetings are held quarterly from 10.00 to 11.30 am in the T.S. rooms, 355 Wickham Terrace, Brisbane. All interested people are invited to attend. You do not need to be a member of the T.S.

    Thought to Ponder

"To feel 'compassion' without an adequate practical result ensuing from it, is not to show oneself an 'Altruist', but the reverse. Real self-development on the esoteric lines is action."
    - 1889, H P Blavatsky
